While it is definitely true that AN digital gear sounds excellent in an all AN system, I have also used an AN front end with Blue Circle and Manley electronics and had excellent results. It is the impedence match that has caused most disappointments with AN digital. I remember a 2.1 player that got a bad review on PF, where the mismatch existed. I don't remember whether it was spotted in print, but Dave Cope identified it to me, knowing the products involved. In my case, I did no conscious impedence matching but just got lucky. So move on to another front end if you like, but if you match impedences, you might have a different experience. Or not.
