Interesting, I am using a very old, but brought up to snuff by Crown DC300A with an ARC LS3B pre driving an old set of ProAc Studio 3 speakers. I have brought home a few amps to demo thinking that the old Crown was my weak link. All those amps have gone back. Like you I will probably look at some high power old school power amps to see if they can beat the Crown. The Rowlands do look nice, but I have yet to hear one in my system.
