I picked-up an old Ortofon stylus cleaning device that operates using ultrasonics. It uses a 9v battery and makes a little high pitched racket as it vibrates a small brush. I got this thing cheap and just for a grin really. It seems like it will work fairly well. I tryed using it but the stylus was not really dirty so no real indication on what it does for grungy ones but by observing the operation, I don't see why it would not work. It operates using a small circle of tightly packed fibers which you set the stylus on. This tiny pad is connected to the vibrator and it then gently scrubs the stylus surface after you first apply a couple drops of the stylus cleaner (alcohol). The instructions say that 5 - 20 seconds will do it depending upon how dirty the stylus is. The brush looks and feels like the one that Discwasher put out years ago, except that you don't endanger your stylus assembly by using it manually. This electronic device is designed to lay on the platter with its tail against the spindle and the stylus just rests on top of it for its cleaning. Simple, safe, and easy to use. Worth the $20 or so if you need one IMO.
