Svetlana 300B

192.234.77.6

I've recently changed to Svetlana 300B's from Golden dragon Supers after pretty exhaustive person-to-person and internet search for the best 300B. I've also read the review of 300B's in Enjoyhthemusic, which claimed the JJ best over WE. There's also a review of Svetlana 300B in TNT audio. I've also asked someone who has both the JJ and Svetlana, who said the Svetlana is a better tube than JJ.
From purely sonic point of view, the Svetlana is a great tube. It has very good extension top-to-bottom with much greater clarity and neutrality than my old Golden dragon Supers. The midrange is very good also. The Golden Dragon Supers are pretty good also, with larger images that are less dense and less focused but a bit more "airy" as a result, but lacking that clarity.
My reservations are that there seems to be some reliability problems, at least in my VAC Ren amp. I've had one tube develop this funny habit. When the amp is just turned on, the tube would exhibit this blue hue/light on the side of the tube, and I can see the light bolt leading to it while the tube makes crackling pops. This lasts about 5 seconds then goes away and doesn't return while the tube is warm. This recurs when amp is started from cold again, though. I sent back this tube and got a replacement, but one of the other tubes is doing the same thing again! I don't know what's going on, and whether it is a incompatibility with my setup or something wrong with the tubes in general. The Review of Svetlana 300B in TNT mentions that the tubes worked the whole time without any problems, so I wonder.... Just be forewarned.
