...and Ken Lyons' IKEA Lyte Lack Rack

Hi Byrd,

There are basically two schools of thought on designing equipment racks to isolate or minimize vibration - light & rigid vs. heavy and massive.

The DIY IKEA Lyte Lack Rack was designed to follow the light & rigid approach by Ken Lyons, founder of Nueance. It's made from Lack end tables, purchased from IKEA at under $15 each. Inexpensive and very effective.

Here are some Lack rack links for you to add the experience of others:

You do need to be careful about which Lack colour to get - some do not have the solid legs or have a slightly different construction. The birch effect ones seem to be the choice people are recommending.

Some people fill the tables with expandable foam, some don't. As far as fill goes, the expandable spray foam insulation is best in-keeping with the lightweight/rigid design.

Any number of aftermarket spikes are fine. From what I've read, no need to go overboard with these. The ones from Parts Express are fine.

Hope this helps & enjoy!
