DIY Oyaide PA-02 interconnect cable...

I recently built a set of cryo'd Oyaide PA-02 interconnect cables for a fellow inmate, and find it to be a fine example of it's type for the price (shielded twisted pair, unplated stranded copper). It's the best sounding of it's type that I've experienced, at least (up to a $250 per 1 meter pair commercial build price point). Enough cryo'd PA-02 bulk cable to build a 1 meter pair costs $37.59 via Take Five Audio (plus the cost of your choice of rca connectors...). CryoParts also sells the product.

The cable's design features PCOCC-A wire and new insulation materials from Furukawa Electric. When terminated with cryo'd Vampire 800/CB rca connectors (direct gold plated pure OFC copper with Teflon insulator), the PA-02's gestalt is warm and musical without sounding lush, offers an excellent soundstage presentation and imaging, and sounds extremely smooth with an utter lack of glare being most notable. While this particular build is not as quick and resolved as a more pricey pair of solid core VH Audio Spectrum interconnects, I think it's a very fine choice for folks who prefer the often fuller-bodied sound of stranded bare copper IC's (in this case a very high quality design that shows little if any sign of grit or hash due to stranded conductors, IME) and who seek a DIY project to build such a cable for their wants/needs, IMHO.

The Vampire 800/CB rca's gold plated copper sonic signature contributes to this particular DIY build's mellow presentation. If a less mellow presentation is desired, I think the cable is worthy of a more assertive (and more pricey) rca connector such as the Xhadow rca (the large version fits) or the Oyaide SLSC rca connector (even more pricey), among others to choose from that will fit an 8mm OD cable. Like any other high quality DIY cable project, splurging on the cost of connectors (if affordable per budget) is always a good idea rather than cutting corners, IME. If a more mellow sonic signature is desired, the cryo'd Vampire 800/CB rca (while not inexpensive) is an excellent mate to the cable (the 800/CB is a great music maker as many inmates have found), IMHO.
