Re: Pls recommend a power amp to build?

I'm a bit late in this thread but what I did was take a few basket case Dynaco Mark IIIs and get them running again. Then I pulled a stereo EL84SE console and built a design found on the net using the same output tubes and a different driver stage.

My latest success was a 6L6 PP HK PA amp. Not sure "why" but it was very educational starting without a schematic, tracing one out, posting questions, finding flaws in my schematic, ... and finally getting it working.

These have taught me a lot about tube design.

Currently I found a couple of 6v6 PP mono amps that I'm working on restoring/tweaking/improving.

If I wanted to start this again, I'd look at Eli's budget amp over at decware.com? He has a pretty good design and my favorite tube guy Jim McShane is working on supplying some of the parts. Sourcing parts is always time consuming and having most of it provided helps *build* the amp instead of searching for parts (or bumming parts from your audio buddies).

If I wanted so source everything, I'd look at Poindexter's musical machine 6v6 amp.

Don't forget you will need a few tools (soldering station, DVOM, scope, funtion generator, variac, GFI outlets, ...) so starting from a existing design has helped me a lot.
