He probably added 1.4 to 6.3 instead of multiplying.
FWIW, my experience with trying to get 6.3VDC from 6.3VAC is not so positive. If more than a few hundred mA is needed, losses add up rapidly with a typical cap input filter even using std schottky rect. Much better results when starting with 8 or 9VAC.
