I have not tried various operating points. I'm using the 46s in a version of the Bugle 45 amp (see schematic above). It uses 5687s and an 83 rectifier. It's interesting to note that in the Cunningham C-46 data sheet, they specifically recommend MV rectifiers because of their "low and practically constant space-charge voltage drop".
Getting back to your post, the important point here is that the operating points that I'm using may not even be optimal (and it still sounds this good). That very well may be and it's something I should look into. Thanks.
