that it is possible to design and fabricate equipment which have greater sensitivity than the human ear. However, the human ear has one advantage in that it can incorporate the functions of many pieces of test gear with one listening and make a judgement, subjective though it may be, as to whether the perceived overall effect is pleasing or not (at least to that observer's mind). While colored by the subjective taste, one listener can incorporate a room full of instrumentation and juggle all the various parameters simultaneously.
That would be the advantage of the human assessment, but possibly also its weakness, as abilities and perceptions can differ, not to mention taste.
