I think that this website was set up to save Jon Risch the bother of dealing with people who DEMANDED that double blind tests be conducted each and every time someone talked about the 'sound' of a cable. It gets old after a couple of years to have a constant harangue by specific individuals insisting that ABX testing is the ONLY way to hear something useful in audio comparisons. In fact, we have found that ABX testing is one of the most insensitive test methods for comparison between audio designs, even though we would rather that it actually was effective. We don't like to 'guess' either. However, much of the time, we can still hear consistent differences between components or designs, yet we cannot 'easily' measure a difference.
People here also give us too much crap about making a living in audio, and how this changes our personal perspective. Well, it is true that we want to find out any important differences in order to make something that sounds better than our competition. If we can't, then the laws of economics says that we should leave everything to the big manufacturers, who can do it cheaper, due the fact that they can make a greater initial investment, and make more of the same thing.
Each and every time that I buy something at my local electronics outlet like Circuit City, I am always disappointed in how it sounds, unless it is a video product, and in this case, I am probably not tuned into the subtle distinctions in video display to the same extent that I am to audio differences, or I would most probably be just as disappointed in the video stuff as well. However, I don't go to a VIDEO website and tout the practicality and perfection of cheap video tape, etc, etc, and accuse hi definition broadcast as just being a scam to make money! Look at the absurdity of this position.
It is the same here in reference to audio quality.
