RE: better sounding digital out ?

All depends what your dac accepts.
If it's the plain old spdif (whether in AES fashion), RME and Lynx are the best (not sure of the differences between pci and pci-express versions, heard mixed things, so i would stick with pci)

If you have alternative, i2s and MADI perform much better and are suitable to transfer highres signals (above 192k).
