RE: Software induced jitter: how long is a piece of string? (Part 2)

As I said, it is not clear what he is saying. The remark:

'I understrand this to be saying that software is nothing more than hardware (albeit always changing configuration per instructions in sw) operating in the pc cpu.'

is patently not correct.

Software is software. Hardware is hardware and although sometimes software can help overcome hardware issues (as in Mechatronics), software cannot be used to correct for say impedance misatches or poor performing hardware, of which there is plenty in a PC when it comes to audio (eg power supply induced jitter).
