How did you install the fuse in the linear supply? Is that mentioned in the manual (if provided)? Is it possible to add an IEC connector instead of directly attaching the mains cable? If so, how should I connect the wires (I live in a 110V region)? Thanks!
You're more than welcome to ask as many questions as you like but, in this case, my advice is to get someone with relevant experience to do the job for you. This is mains electricity which, in inexperienced hands, can be lethal. You seem a nice enough fellow and I'd hate to hear that you'd gone up in a puff of smoke.
Seriously, PSUs like the Power-One are sold to OEMs to build into equipment on the clear understanding that the OEM (in this case, you or me) installs them in conformance with local safety rules. Out of the box, the units don't.
As it happens, my setup doesn't fully conform with UK rules but it is at least safely installed and includes the right fuse, fuse holder and wiring. If I wanted to market the design, it would be a very different matter - and rightly so.
I worked for years with printing plant and am relaxed with mains voltages but that is because (I like to think) I know how to do so safely.
However, I'd be very reluctant to offer advice on safe practice in the US.
An alternative might be to look for a stand-alone power supply. Sorry I can't be more positive,
Dave
