The USB cable is 1meter in length. And yes the [higher quality] cable actually sounds bad. I dont know if length makes a difference but both are the same length in this case.
I am going USB out to my DAC, which does not have a USB [in] connection. I decided to go with USB out instead of spdif via my soundcard because of reasons associated with better quality transfer of data. Also optical offers galvanic isolation between the DAC from the computer as well as [to my ears] sound better than spdif.
