They each have their own idiosyncrasies and disadvantages. But a good design deals with such. IMHO you can make both approaches work really well.Depends what you want to do. Use a PC as transport? Then go USB. Use a CD player as transport? Then go SPDIF.
It is nice to have a DAC that accommodates both.
