Hi Tom - not all tube amps sound the same - didn't like ARC D90, 3045 was pretty good but had sweep tubes biased cool instead of original outputs - stereo 70 with CCS 6DJ8 ampo - kinda zippy but liked on Klipschfor commerical efforts moscode seemed crude - maybe its feedback was screwy?
"tube sound" coverw a lot of territory - especially as power supplies are changed - there were a lot of good xformers in days where all stuff was tube - maybe not the most core for LF
do you like Fender type push-pull amps w. feedback to 12AT7 inverter? - that's a pretty short FB loop - FWLIW, I like the idea of free running stage to drive/voice things - is this too primative?
have heard Citation II xformers with ARC front end, 6AN8 like MKII/III, Bruce Moore's Mullard-type using octal adn cathode follower buffers, Mullard type with 1/2 AX and 12AUY as inverter - everything but original Hegeman circuit.
question - do low inductance push-pull transformers in feedback pentode/UL amps behave worse/better or same as higher L with regards to back EMF from hard kickdrum beat?
best,
Freddy
