Re: How many pairs of Altec 1803B in existance? What about in North America only(USA and Canada)?

Interesting question. The 1803 horn, in original tar filled version, appears in the Lansing Mfg. Co. bulletin #6, likely published in 1936. The net weight is listed as 176 lbs! To the best of my knowledge, production of the non-filled B series horns coincided with Altec's move to Anaheim in 1958, so the 1803 had already been in production for more than 20 years. How many of both series were made, over 40+ years of production? Nobody knows, but probably several hundred. The 18 cell horns were never as popular as the variants with fewer cells; their very wide, very tall pattern would not have worked well in most installations.

As Jonathan pointed out, RCA made an 18 cell horn of similar dimensions. Vitavox in England made a 220 Hz., sand filled 18 cell horn; some of these were sold in the U.S. by Dukane.
