Re: integrating a sub with Lowthers

You should read your owners manual first....

Usually subs have two sets of inputs, one is the line level inputs which takes a low level voltage signal from your preamp, feeds the sub amp which feeds your bass drivers.

Then there is a second level of inputs which takes a higher voltage signal from your main amps' outputs, feeds your sub amp which feeds your bass drivers.

Do you have this arrangement?

Bert presumed that you were using the outputs at your main amps to feed the amp in inputs of your sub, but that you were not getting sufficient gain. So he recommended that you use the same outputs from your amps, but feed that to the line in inputs of your subwoofer, which are much more sensitive, so that you would need to "pad" the inputs to the subs with resistors to lower the voltage level so that you would not overpower your sub amps.

My post suggests that you try using a signal from your preamp to feed the line in inputs of your sub. The signal from the preamp is usually a "faster" more detailed signal (since the source signal is not going through the additional electronics of your main amps). The difficulty with this arrangement is that the amplification qualities of both amplifiers are different which may result in a disjointed sound from your main speakers and your sub, thus inco"hear"ence (creative spelling 101!!!).

Does this help?

BTW, what Lowther speakers/drivers do you have? I use a Genesis 900 sub with my Hedlund Horns with great success. I use the line level inputs and it is worthwhile making it work that way.
