RE: Thermal Distortion Paper

Are you a Platonists? The proverb "the hollower the barrel the louder the noise" is paraphrasing Plato's quote " The empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers"

The proverb "the hollower the barrel the louder the noise" could not sound more condescension. Which is funny considering the original Plato quote does not sound the least bit condescending.

What is retirement age? I am only 53 and I am retired sounds like your calling forum members old and I am sure some members are older does not mean you should remind them. What happened to respect your elders I guess MDA's aka modern day Americans don't have the respect that my generation was brought up with.

And I have no idea why you would have a hatred of long post. And I only use the word hatred because the context in which you speak.

I do not mind long post if they are knowledgeable with that said I do have a problem with the original post on Thermal distortion and we can start with the title.

Thermal distortion is a subcategory of thermal compression so if I see a paper titled thermal distortion first I have to wonder does the writer of said paper even know what he is talking about or is he giving his own opinion. In the case of Michael Gerstgrasser thermal distortion paper it is all opinion until you study test and then post your test results to back up what you say. This paper misses the mark like a true beginner.

JBL one of the worlds largest speaker manufacturers' has the best published key word published papers on thermal compression. So does Misco speakers and Kippel the creators of the worlds best measuring system KNS Kippel near field scanner. And all previously mentioned are readily readable thanks to the AES audio engineering society. I like JBL's papers they go in depth on this subject with plenty of measurments and if you really want to know how much distortion voice coil heat creates well JBL has a nice graph showing measured distortion at different temps.

I think all members of this forum regardless of age have moved past such beginner post such as the post that started this thread.

I to have a favorite quote although it is not half plagiarized from Plato it is a quote from Plato's teacher Socrates "Smart people learn from everything and everyone, average people from their experiences, stupid people already have all the answers."
