Since you have the amps already, by all means go active. Used active crossovers are often far less expensive than decent passive components, and all you have to do to compare crossover points is spin a knob, far easier to dial in what you want.
You still will want to insure proper polarity, some active crossovers have a switch for this, otherwise just swap + for - on the HF. The polarity is correct when you have the loudest response at the crossover frequency.
Check your local Music Go Round, or whatever used source you like. The old Bi Amp brand bi-amp stereo crossovers sound pretty damn good, and go for like $25.
Then again, the Behringer digital units are around 3 bills new, the DBX Driverack around $500, so there are a lot of options that sound good and are cheap for whatever you think cheap is.
