I don't really agree with this. If you can read Japanese "COTY" in Stereo Sound is called "best buy component", meaning best value for money component in each price category. Just as how prices of Japanese imports are jacked up in American market, so are most American and European imports to Japan (including Ayre). Given this it doesn't surprise me some Japanese components make it high up in the ranking. Besides, if you see most winter issue Stereo Sound magazines you'll find majority of the COTY award goes to non-Japanese brands (only 6 including TAD if it counts among 27 components selected for 2007). I wouldn't really call that "biased toward home-grown equipment".
