Thanks for mentioning CD player in a good light (Elipse and Andromeda). What was I thinking? Buying yet ANOTHER CD player when I have two already, thats insane. When I was listening to fantastic finale Mahler 8 Sinopoli with Eclipse versus SA-11s1. 11s1 was smooth and nice. Eclipse sounded almost 'out of control' which I liked better, that is one reason I did not buy 11s1, although it IS alluring. Eclipse still sounds good but Andromeda better.
Panamax, OK its cheap. AND it fits in my low clearance shelf. I have to have a conditioner that is as small or smaller oterwise I would have to get a whole new stereo rack that is thicker than the one I have. I like the quadraspire but I like the enclosed sonshine cabinet I have (oak).
As far as upgrading LP12, here is the thing: If I do it will outperform my CD player. I like being under the illusion that both front ends are about as good as each other. I know it sounds neurotic. But its better than being a drunkard. I wonder what it would sound like with Rosewook koetsu signature ($2K in 1990).
Funny, I was reading in TAS (Absolute sound) June 1990 issue, comparing CD players. They had little going for them then, and the Philps LHH1000 was $4k, but I bet it was not too bad. I wanted good one then and got a bad one because my audition was only 30 hours. I needed a week which I was not allowed to have due to store opens Sunday. (Theta, just not a good match for system).
Interesting but an unpopular study would be to research whether vinyl adds a euphonic coloration to make it sound better. I'm sure that has been well studied and discussed, I just have to find out where. have a great day.
I am listening to Beethoven 3rd, Bohm BPO DG (LP on LP12 versus "DG Original" on Andromeda), both good.
