HowdyDual layer non hybrid discs could be used for a 250 minute stereo program or for a 140 minute MC program. The layers aren't preassigned to stereo/MC. In fact the music can switch layers mid track (which if I remember correctly messed up an early non-Sony player and required a firmware update.)
There are a lot of universal discs which aren't hybrids.
With MC about 74 minutes fit on a single layer, but this depends on the compression ratio.
I have no idea why some of the Sony dual layer discs are dual layer instead of single layer.
