Inner and outer numbers on Sony DL SACDs

I've nothing better to do than check this out.

Sony - Glenn Gould - Bach: Goldberg Variations (SS 37779)
There is just one number:
SUSS-000450A1

Sony - Hilary Hahn - Brahms and Stravinsky violin concertos (SS 89649)

There are two numbers:
SUDL-002490A1 (Outer)
SUDL-002490B1 (Inner)

I also checked ...

Sony - Roger Waters - In the Flesh (C2S 85235)
SUDL-002440A1 (Outer)
SUDL-002440B1 (Inner)

It appears that this information has a ring of truth. The letters "DL" in the code may mean something too. Note the "A" and "B".

If I look at the playing surface of the Gould and the Hahn disc side by side under a strong light, there is an obvious difference in colour. The Gould is like a mirror, a purely silvery colour; whereas the Hahn has the slightest touch of dark grey. This touch of grey is nothing as strong as looking at some hybrids, where the colour is an obvious gold (due to the semi-transmissive layer?).

I have not noticed the colour differences between Sonys before, but with the Gould and Hahn discs side by side, I can easily see the difference.

The Waters disc has the same colour variation. I checked another Sony disc (Herbie Hancock) and the silver colour and single number is there. When I put these 4 discs side by side it's all too obvious which is which.

So, looks promising.

Metralla
