I have a pair of Grado's (225's) ... and the person that sold them to me told me that I should run a variety of music through them without wareing them for 3-4 days straight before doing any sort of critical listening.

Of course, I couldn't wait, and experienced what you did at first, then I followed the burn in advice and afterwards the cans were much more opened up and have been great since.
