Joy and Advantages of Listening to Music from Multiple Formats.

"And yes, CD was one of the most significant consumer format music delivery inventions of the 20th Century, along with the LP and the 7" single.

CD was a step backwards from the LP as the CD sonically is a big turnoff. As long as I can listen to music on SACDs, DVD-Audios, 24/96 DVDs, 24 bit high resolution downloads, LPs, reel to reel, and analog cassettes no one can force me to endure the tragic sound quality of CDs. No one, so back off, NO SALE!

"If you are speaking of CDs that is the worst thing that ever happened to music lovers IMHO."

This statement of mine is one of the most important statements made in the history of music reviewing, however Mark Levinson goes into greater detail of why.

Mark Levinson: CD vs. SACD and LP

"Most music lovers feel that there is something wrong with the CD. Many prefer the sound of their LP's, or have cut down or stopped listening to music without even realizing why. Classical CD's aren't selling, while LP's of the same repertoire fetch hundreds of dollars a copy. People used to have 20 or 30 LP's and enjoy them, while now, people have hundreds or thousands of CD's which they rarely listen to, and almost never hear all the way through. What's going on?

Research shows that the pulse code modulation (PCM), the operating system of the CD, has limitations that so far cannot be overcome. There is something about listening to sound that has been processed with PCM which is stressful - the opposite of what most people seek in listening to music."

"What's better, an Ampex 351 with tube record and reproduce electronics or an Ampex ATR-102 with solid-state record and reproduce electronics?"

I've not heard either in person myself, however many of my favorite LPs were made with Ampex 350 tubed reel to reel decks.
