When someone says "everything I've ever tried made a difference", it doesn't mean he tried to pray for improvement in sound quality for an hour before listening, or draw a magic sign on the wall behind his audio rack, using his own feces.
"Everything" here means "pre-screened" set of tweaks, most likely tried by other people, with at least some of those reporting positive difference - so, there's a chance that it will work in his case, too.
On the other hand, "nothing I've ever tried made a difference" is so extremely rarely said by anyone (I don't think I've ever seen this) - it borders on pure conjecture. What the other camp is actually saying is "There's no reason for me to try anything, since there's no valid reason for any of it to work".
Taking both of these adjustments into account, I don't think there could be, or even should be, territory in between.
