Yes you have added to the notion I was getting at with regards to "perception" by noting that just because something is more expensive does not make it better. But I am sure you can see many products in the world today where there is a perception that price is indicative of quality. Rolex costs $5,000 and doesn't tell time as well as a Timex for $39. There are plenty of cars in the sub $20k price range that are FAR more reliable than most current BMW and Mercedes models (if you place reliability as a premium). Though of course there is a performance aspect where paying more will get you more.
That is why I avoided considering price to a large degree in the show report. I can not determine what YOU or anyone else finds as a good value. I liked the sound of TB/Magico because I felt they sounded closer to SET for naturalness. Price wise the room was very high. I think I could just buy a single ended Tube amp and good High efficiency speakers and trump the room for less money. I personally liked several less expensive rooms more like the Trenner And Freidl/Teresonic/Audio Note/ rooms better. But to be fair I heard them longer and they let me play my stuff.
I have not heard Fred's system but the Acapella Einstein room had a live sensation very little else at CES could muster and was easily one of the best I heard at the show. Fred has upper scale Acapella's better amps etc so it should be significantly better.
Higher price does not necessarily mean better but if the company knows what they're doing chances are it will be better. Granting of course that better is somewhat subjective.
