Re: Real life

Good points. I do have one orchestral recording with a minimal amount of compression (only 4db) that is truly impressive on the best systems I have heard but a disaster on most. I have found that many of the smaller classical chamber works (string quartets or piano trios etc.) can be recorded very nicely with no compression (I have some experience in recording small ensembles) and with a wide dynamic range system they can sound quite lifelike.
