20 years ago, not much in audio had an IR remote and a short time later it was generally accepted (at least amongst higher quality brands) that these analogue circuits (tone controls, graphic equalisers, loudness filters, etc) did more harm to the signal than good. These brands dropped these processing circuits, if they had even adopted them in the first place.
Certainly with poor recordings, the sound can appear to be improved but these devices do no favours to good recordings - in fact the contrary.
They remained to be found only on those cheap stack systems we now see in charity shops or at the local tip and good riddance to them - Shite and all! I'll stick with high quality kit that handles the signal with an absolute minimum of any form of unnecessary processing.
Also adding boxes means extra cables and we all know that the cable that improves the signal has not yet been invented, and never will be, however much cash is thrown at them.
