The Vidar 2 adds a front panel switch for convenience that is lacking in the original Vidar. Otherwise they're the same design.I have the Vidar in my system at the moment and it's an excellent sounding [and hefty!] Class AB amp for its compact size.
The Vidar is a powerful sounding amp with deep and impactful midbass and low bass. Midrange is very nice but perhaps not quite as 'refined' as some more costly amps I've had in my setup. The treble region is pleasant w/o too much top-end energy or brightness.
Sound stage is also very good at least when driven by a modest tube preamp. I'm driving mine from the LSA HyperDrive 2 headphone amp that also doubles as a very capable tube preamp with 0dB 6dB and 12dB gain settings. This setup driving the Vidar into my Tannoy speakers is sounding wonderful.
As nice as the Vidar is I'm selling mine as I prefer the Class D NAD C 298 amp at about 3x the Vidar's price.
