RE: Yes.

We've seen remarkable results using 6" lengths made from 2 conductors of Vampire 10 gauge wire. In that particular case we were able to place the amp backwards behind the speaker, which had its connectors near the floor. But I agree- 6" is quite impractical in many cases, but the physics does not seem to care how practical it is :)
