Nothing sounds the way I want it- which is PERFECT!! :-o
The main reason I want to do this is I assume that if the designer of the amp - John Curl- is doing it, then it must make it sound better.... I know this is perhaps unscientific.
Frankly, I would bet at least even money that I COULD NOT hear the difference between a class A power amp and A/B amp of similar power in A/B/X blind study. My ears aren't so great, in terms of hearing all these fine differences. For example I have a hell of a time hearing why the SACD version of Kind of Blue is better than the CD version - I've synced the two versions up, the CD on a 1983 (!) NAD cd player and the SACD on a $1,500 SACD player - and carefully matched the levels using an osciloscope - and neither I nor my pro musician friend could hear a difference. (On SOME direct-to-DSD SACDs I THINK I hear that the SACD allows one to hear the various instruments recorded more clearly distince from each other, but even that conclusion is tenuous.)
But I have the "audiophile habit" and since I'm an engineer my impulse is to take the top off and start poking around.
