You can buy on Amazon felt covers for a piano keyboard.

They can be hung in front of or behind the tweets or mid-range - whatever you want to damp - to check the potential effect of adding resistors, or just to deduce which surface might be causing a problem.

Have always had the tweets out on 1.6 and 3.7i, for maximum sound stage width.
