Re: My observations

Now I wouldn't want to make any suggestions as to what is missing but I can't resist the observation about your amp using the single supply.

On the number of occassions where in theory, a monobloc should be better, I've found that for some reason, a stereo amp sounds more musical. It has that certain something that makes you wanna listen.

I haven't analysed this in any great detail but your comment that the monoblocs sound more "CD like" is to me a good one. As tho it is more "in pieces" than a whole if you like and missing that certain something of the small details - not "hyper fi" small details but them other ones.

My preamps had been dual mono for years and then I put the supply to mono and never looked back. I called it at the time something to do with the marriage of space and music as I found it very difficult to describe - it really is the small details. Allen would call it DDR I think.

Likewise when I built the 813 Aurora, it was mono supply and it had this certain something. When a friend's Cary 300B stereo amp went to get fixed, he got as a loaner the next model up - monoblocs, virtually of the same amp. It just didn't do what the stereo one did musically and sounded more hifi, better in those terms but less natural.

I have a pet theory on this but will stop rambling now, One day I hope to put it to the test with my own version of an Amity.
