I don't know if this is the right forum to post this question but I was wondering about the quality of 12" singles. They seemed to come into being while I was in my cd phase and I never paid much attention to them. Are they audiophile quality? Does the increased size directly corelate to better sound? Are there any especially good ones out there?

Typically, a 45 rpm pressing will have better sound quality than an LP, due to the higher velocity of the stylus and (usually) wider grooves. I have a couple of Sting 45 rpm remixes that blow away the LP version. As with anything, however, quality will vary with the production.

I agree, production quality varies greatly.
