I now have four of them: Aja, Elephant, A Love Supreme, and Kind of Blue. In each case they sound so pure with such a low noise floor and great dynamics. They are so musical and pass so much information.

If you are interested at all in the releases, get them while you can. You won't regret it!

Glad you like the Aja, as I just pulled the trigger yesterday as a Christmas gift to myself. I'll give it to my daughter so she can give it to me under the tree. I'll guarantee an excellent gift.Lots of opinions on these but as long as it sounds good I'll be fine with gifting this LP back to my kids when I pass. Got to send along some cool stuff I figure.
I liked Steely Dan from a young age and one of the few classic rock bands that I still listen to now more than ever. This album was their pinnacle in my opinion. Gaucho took the perfection too far. Steve Gadd on Aja vs drum machines on Gaucho is the difference I guess. And with Wayne Shorter passing this year... I dunno, this album just means a lot to me. The Gadd and Shorter jam on Deacon Blues is musical perfection.

I wonder how much of the price is tied up in the stupid, over the top, useless packaging?
...hopefully the packaging is more than the original, so not hopeless. It better be at that price. Many here will remember the releases years ago that had posters included you could hang on the wall...
What is hopeless is the price for each. I'm also a vinyl spinner but that price is ridiculous for anyone like me who has limited funds. The company may have a number of very limited buyers but not me and that's their target
And historically I'm not impressed with special vinyl formulations. I like Japanese vinyl but even Japanese records (often my favorite records) sound a bit more rounded and smooth than originals. I haven't concluded or do I care to conclude whether or not I simply enjoy the higher noise floor of normal vinyl or dislike the quiet of special vinyl formulations.
I have one One-Step (Blood On the Tracks) and have a pre-order for mid next year for a UHQR. I want to have at least one of each for the collections sake.
The packaging on both is gross.
I bought a couple before Chad jacked up the prices up to the ridiculously stupid level.
The UHQR pressing of "Axis: Bold As Love" might just be the finest LP pressing I've ever heard. The new UHQR's are, at least those I've heard, truly remarkable statements of the LP pressing art, but I can put up with a lot of less than state of the art for $150 price difference.
Current price is f'ing ridiculous.

Still, the Steely Dan Aja is 30,000 pressings. I'll bet they sell out. So enough people must be able to afford them. Don't forget, we're talking about the whole world here!
I have no doubt they'll sell out, but won't be me buying. I do wonder though how many of those 30k copies will sit sealed on someone's shelf waiting for even higher prices to come along?
Not sure how many times I'm expected to buy Aja on LP, but to date I've bought it four times. The Cisco reissue is good enough for me and have divested myself of all my other copies including the MFSL one.
Obviously, no one is forced to buy these. If you're satisfied with the Cisco, that's all that's important.There probably are people who order several copies which they plan to sell. AS does limit three to a customer.
As to the complaints about the packaging and the high prices, even Craft's small batch one steps are now $109. And they come in a thin slipcase. I have the Thelonius Monk Brilliant Corners. I like the slender slipcase but $109? Obviously the fact that it's a one-step and is more expensive to produce.
I hate the Mofi 45 One Step packaging. That is a case where the packaging is ridiculous! So much cardboard. Crazy!

I agree with you on the excess packaging and current marketing approach with multiple exclusive vinyl editions. I am very conflicted about buying vinyl these days with respect to my impact on the environment particularly as I import a lot and even records sold from the US (from US labels) seem to be pressed in Europe so a record arriving to my corner of the world (Oceania) has bounced around the globe. Not to mention the alternative and exclusive formats which encourage me to buy more than one copy of the same product.
The UHQR packaging just seems an unnecessary waste of materials and takes up volume both on the shelf and within shipping packaging which increases costs. Then again, USD175 for a standard sleeve might be a tougher sell!
I suspect that our buying habits might die with our generation as the future enthusiasts will have a rather different attitude to purchases in order to be environmentally responsible.
