Do you have any experience with Audio Matiere gear?
Pretty egotistical I would say. How would like the word used for you and your opinions?
Yes, I have heard the Audio Matiere amp and preamp used with Soundlab A-1 speakers, and that was one combination that really made it sound like the performers were in the same room. I cannot say whether it was mainly due the amps or the speakers though. It was a friend's equipment, so I was unable to change out any gear to find out.
I received the preamp yesterday. Good testing Telefunken Ez81 rectifiers and EL84 bottles also Russian 6n23P EB instead of ECC88. It sounds very good. Kind of transformed the sound actually to one of the more pleasant sounding sets I've heard. I traded completely refurbished and really nice sounding ARC D115MKII amp for that preamplifier and thought that maybe my desire to have a complete set is foolish considering that I didn't have best experience with the amp but no. The combo performs much better than expected.

I read nothing but praise for Audio Matiere but my own experience is not that good. I went through a few combinations of tubes and speaker sets but the result is consistently the same- wooly bass and sizzling top end. Old Audio Research D115 amp is in another league comparably.
Interesting thing about Soundlab pairing. I had Millennium model and at that time a pair of Audio Research Cl-120 monos couldn't move those things. VtL MB750 did it with grace but the size and heat these amps generated was too much to take.
What I do like is cheesy " French " look of these antics so that why I ask about signature versions. It's like with any other collectible equipment. It has its moments and some nice qualities but overall is so so, but once you touch it it looses value and appeal.
Anyway, thanks for response
