  Ace Audio Zero Distortion, early 1970s. Zero distortion because it was just two sliding potentiometers, no active circuits. (A friend had one when they were new.)

  Oh, I see the phono stage, so "zero distortion" line level. I don't recall how it sounded - I assume that depended on the loading of the source impedance with those potentiometers and the capacitance of the connecting cables (simple RC low pass filter).

    I listen to a pair of Ace Audio 35X2 stereo power amplifiers in my triamped three-way bedroom system every day. I have owned them since the 'seventies, when I was an Ace dealer. They are noise-free, and sound great. As I recall, the Company was on Long Island, and the owner was named Grauer (sp?).

        Hi,

            Musetap,,,,you know this amp.I found a saw mill close by and they let me pick out rough cut pine or poplar.The trim on the barn board style wood is from Richard Holt's old rotting lobster traps in his yard.Most lobster guys use wire traps now.I can get tons of those rubber feet.They are called (cookies) and are little rollers that go on the ground rope of a fishing trawl.They have a cloth tread inside the rubber.I live in an around Portland and the items used have been underwater in Casco Bay,the lobster trap slats, and the cookies,Georges Bank, Perfect Storm area.Take care ...Mark Korda

      In addition to their Zero Distortion preamp, which worked acceptably despite its cheesy construction, Ace made a Model 3000 preamp. It had a silver front, and having no tone controls, was quite minimalist. It was much more robustly made than the Zero, and sounded great. Besides the aforesaid 35X2 power amp, they made an electronic crossover. I think Ace was around for only two or three years.

      I could swear somewhere in my piles of old stereo equipment literature, I have a flyer for the Zero Distortion preamp. If I find it, I'll scan it and post it here.
