Hello I found a Bogen DB230 in Holland Europe, i cost me 100 euro
Compleet with tube's , knop's,in orignal state. I think it came to
holland with airforce personal in 60". Bogen is unheard of over here.
It needed a recap, but i cannot decide what to do,rebuild or use the
trafo"s and frame for simpler DIY schematic SE KT88 design.

I'm listening to music right now through the front end of a Bogen DB230. I'm using it to drive a biamplified system with a pair of Genelecs and a Crown DC300 pushing JBL subwoofers. (yes, I know - there are some transistors :-) Look - I have tons of tube gear, o.k? give me a break...:-)
Seriously, converting this DB230 was very easy. First, Do nothing if you don't know what you're doing. If you do, do the usual tube caution stuff, discharge the power caps, etc., and of course UNPLUG IT! :-) Take off the covers and pull out the 6DW5 power tubes (x4), the 6CM7 (x1) and the 7199's (x2).
To get the preamp signal, make a pair of flying leads with the appropriate connectors. Just pull the signal right off the grid input to the 7199 driver tubes. (google it - the 7199 is a common tube - you want the grid to triode 1) That's it! No mods other than soldering the wire to each 7199 tube socket and the shield to the backplane ground. I did it all in less than 15 minutes.
Mind you, this unit had been sitting in my scrap pile of fixer-uppers for twenty years (literally 20 years!) All I did was clean it up, pull and reseat the tubes, clean the controls, install the aforementioned cables and power it up slowly with a variac to reform the caps. It works perfectly!
Performance? First, I was amazed that this DB230 front end is EXTREMELY quiet. Lots of gain to drive the Genelecs without effort - Nice practical e.q. too. So far, I'm only using the aux input right now, being driven by a CD player.
Upgrades: Looks like a lot of ceramic caps in the RIAA and tone circuits that could benefit from upgrades. Then I'll check out the turntable preamp.
Opinion: This is a very nice little (pre)amp, with plenty of room for mods, upgrades for anyone who is handy and looking for a classsic tube pre on the cheap.
