I bought some Onix copper bananas to terminate some 12Ga. stranded speaker cable that I have. These bananas have set screws and a compression sleeve. Should I insert the wire inside the compression sleeve and then use the set screws to hold the wire and sleeve inside the banana or should I just forget about the compression sleeve altogether ?
essentially what I am asking is what is the purpose of the sleeve ? Thanks.
Here's a picture of the part:

I'd go with the wire in the sleeve and screws hitting the sleeve. Probably the sleeve keeps the screws from cutting through the strands of the wire.
