What's been your experience? I'm close to a transformer and believe my power is relatively smooth and even. I'm familiar with PS Audio. What other brands are there? Are they all as expensive as PS?

IME, the best results have proven to be powering your source components with a high quality true AC regenerator that employ input and output isolation transformers and powering the amps/subs with high current balanced power.One of the biggest drawbacks with most AC regenerators is that they don't isolate the AC outlets from each other which allows digital components, that dump RF garbage back down their AC lines, to contaminate the other AC outlets and all the other components connected to it with RF garbage.
The stock PS Audio AC regenerators for example do not provide outlet isolation but Cullen Mods will upgrade any PS Audio AC regenerator with individual outlet isolation modules which takes care of the RF cross contamination as well as other beneficial mods.
One other thing is that one should be very aware of the total combined load on the AC regenerator output. Pushing it to it's output capacity limit will always degrade the sound, the output is almost always a class AB amplifier BTW, and running the unit well within it's output capacity will ensure one is getting the full benefit of AC regenerated power.
Once you hear your CD player or phono preamp powered by a true AC regenerator with input and output isolation transformers and run well within the regenerators output capacity, you will not go back to raw power and that includes dedicated AC lines as they are NOT immune to RF noise/garbage infiltration and are still plagued with line voltage flucuations although the benefits of a dedicated AC line outweigh the drawbacks for many...

but it won't protect your audio system from RF noise generated within your house or by the neighbors who share the transformer.
A power regenerator may prevent RF noise on your AC lines from getting through, but it will not prevent RF noise generated by individual audio components from getting to the other components fed by the regenerator or connected by cables. Further, it is difficult to get one big enough to not inhibit a power amp. Thus, you can spend a lot of money and end with a compromised setup.
I've had good success with Alan Maher's Infinity Circuit Breaker Filters in conjunction with my home-made parallel AC filters.
You make good points. But I like my battery regenerators, and one can use isol transformers between component and regenerator. I also plug my 2.5 watt SET into the regenerator with hardly any load on the regenerator.
That seemed to be what the OP had in mind.
buy a filter if you must, MIT, Torus, etc. work well. One of my AH HA moments in audio came when I removed a PS Audio power station or whatever they are called now. Dedicated, home run ckt and a decent recept box and filter worked wonders in my set up.

The PS Audio unit is a different type of conditioner compared to a transformer based balanced power offerings. Both units should be sized much bigger than the constant amperage demands since micro demands can be much larger.
Funny I'm looking at the very same thing right now. BPT or PS Audio? Either way I think I'd like to try balanced power.
