I'm going to build some ksa50 krell clone amps.Either dual mono or in one case.
Does anyone know where i could find a nice heavy equipment case to make some amp's from.
I figure i might be able to source a heavy metal faceplate localy but the heavy gage case is what i need.A ready made amp case would be great though?
Also i want to put heatsinks down the sides.
Anyone know where to get these?
thanks!

They cost more than Par-Metal, but HiFi2000's enclosures are beautiful and very functional. I've purchased their Slimline and Galaxy Maggioratto enclosures and have been very, very satisfied. For a Krell KSA-50, you'd want to consider one of the larger Pesante Dissipante boxes. Check out their website (http://www.hifi2000.it/default.asp?Langid=1) or their sales arm (http://www.modushop.biz/).
HiFi2000's prices are very reasonable, but shipping can hurt. My last purchase from them included 7 boxes, so I was able to gain some volume efficiencies.
By the way, I'd strongly recommend getting the 10mm front panels.

Scottp.s.: Here is a photo of my latest preamp, built in a Slimline chassis (the power supply is in a separate Galaxy Maggioratto box). I designed the front panel using software downloaded from Front Panel Express and had them drill, engrave and color the HiFi2000 front and rear panels.

Wow nice work on that preamp!
I'm starting to realise that i'm comming up to the point where i could of just bought a used ksa 50.
This is bumming me out bigtime as i know that no matter how well i build my amp it will never have the resale value of the krell.
So far i can get a very nice case from china for 350.
The par case for less and the very nice hifi 2000 case for well i'm not sure as i have not figured out the currency conversion lol!
They do look expensive though.
I think i have to run one case.
Dual mono will be too expensive.
It seems the early ksa's were fan cooled. No external heatsinks.
The later ones had heatsinks.I want to make the later version.
Does anyone know about heatsinks?
My searches came up short.
Wishfish:The Pesante Disipante enclosures come with heatsinks. You'd need to size the chassis (e.g., 3U, 4U, 5U) to the amount of heat the KSA50s generate, but HiFi2000's website provides a heat dissipation guide. Before buying from Par-Metal, you might want to explore your options. If nothing else, a nicer enclosure may support a higher resale value downstream.
By the way, have you considered a Pass Labs amp instead? I have nothing against the KSA50, but for about the same investment you could build a Pass Aleph 60, an F5 or an Aleph J (or J-X), which are all of a more recent vintage and very highly prized. Circuit boards are frequently available on the Pass thread at diyaudio.com, and are sold with Nelson Pass' consent.

Scott

If you do not see what you want, they can also do special orders.
I used one for my power conditioner. Very well made case.
knew there had to be a company doing metal work/case work like this. Thanks for the reference and the link. Now I have a source if I ever get around to building a power center to replace my old MIT Z boxes.

I second Par-Metal. I've used a number of their chassis in past projects. They also do hole punching for a small fee. You just provide a drawing with the hole dimensions and layout.
Hi took a look at that par mar site the cases look good enough. For a fair price too.So i'm going to buy from them.
Now the only thing i need is heatsinks.
I would like a row to go on each side of the amp.
Where do i get these?
Have any of you looked at the chineese amp cases on ebay?
I would jump on one of them but their shipping is 160 usd to my door.I don't think thats fair.It does weigh 16 kg though and does have heatsinks.
You may just find a thread at DIY Audio forum on building a SS Amp with
all the parts links, along with heatsinks.
Just one option...
