Did you receive the new power cord?

...I'll keep you posted on how it performs. I'm expecting BIG things with your Reference power cord.
...I am going to hard-wire it into my Hotbox this weekend, but in the meantime it has a few hours on it on my Pilot 402 vintage receiver and initially I am very impressed. Nice tone, harmonics, as well as dynamics. Excellent rendition of hall space and instrumental timbre also. The first hour was not so good; a little mechanical sounding, but that went away quickly. This cord, by the way, was pre-owned with supposedly quite a few hours on it already, so I don't know if that makes any difference on its conditioning into the system. In any event, it will soon be the key lifeline to my VAC monoblocks in the main system. Here's hoping for good stuff to happen. I just went into day 17 with my Reference II walwart; really nice synergy taking place with both systems. I'll go into the superlatives at another time. (o:
After having it hard-wired into my Hotbox powering my tube VAC monoblocks, it is slowly disappearing and letting the music flow naturally through my amps. By the way, the male plug makes all the difference in the overall neutrality and easy flow of the music in Alan's cord. Believe it or not, the cheaper Wattgate 5266i, with tangs cleaned, polished, and a thin coat of QSG applied, is the best choice. This Wattgate makes the power cord sing much better than all the Oyaides, Hubbells, Furutechs etc. YMMV and IMHO. Oh, and Alan must have similar listening preferences to my own as he is now using the Wattgate 5266i and 320 in his newest Reference power cord line. Another great example of not always the most expensive sounding the best. Yes, in this case, less is more. Happy Listening. (o:

I have been using the Wattgate combo for the last year with the Reference line.

...as the Reference cord I have is about a year old and came with the Oyaide P-029 and C-029 connectors. The Wattgate 5266i, although much less expensive than the Oyaide model, is clearly sonically superior. Of course, the QSG is the icing on the cake that brings out its final beauty. The Oyaide has added color, which initially sounds impressive, but ultimately tells the ear that it deviates too much from neutrality. The Oyaide also has a certain, almost benign hardness, which robs the music from that gentle ebb and flow of naturalness. IMHO.
You hit the nail right on the head which is why I switched connectors. Besides you can do a lot to the Wattgate to improve the sound quality for pennies on the dollar. Painting the inside of the shell with conductive paint for example helps lower RFI/EMI at the termination. Not all paints offer the same performance so I suggest testing a few until you find one that works for you.Alan
