both philips cdp can easily drive the amps to clipping while any other player does not.

and yes there is distortion at all volume levels.

my little portable philips cdp has a line-out port that doesnt cause distortion though.

If it is distorting at all volume levels and the analog outputs of the players is not variable, then no attenuator will fix it. They are simply giving you distorted/clipped output. Have you tried them with another system?
