Thank-you for the detailed recommendations. This has the chocolate caps, and found the ceramic flat packs. Sounds like biggest challenge is finding 6HS6's.
How important is the 12DW7?
Is this correct, you don't use a scope and sweep generator for alignment?
Looking forward to this, changed some caps in the Scott and it sounds good. If Eico beats it will be impressed.
I'm a bit concerned though, these tuners cost less than the Accuphase, I would hate to upset Frank.
Follow Ups:
6HS6s- look for one RCA on eBay. That tube shows up every few weeks.
I do use proper equipment for complete tuner alignment. However, you can get sensitivity to 95% if you are careful on that simple tuner and just one IF slug can detune your tuner significantly.
The 12DW7 is important to me, but I believe I hear distortion too clearly as others may filter it out in their head. I call distortion more warm sounding & some really like that sound. I also have used a 7247 RCA made in Japan. It is manufactured by Matsushita. That is a good sounding tube just under the CBS 7247 performance.
There is a GE label 6HS6 that is manufactured by RCA on eBay. It also measures very good. Keep in mind using other than RCA hurts the sonics.
Fortunately RCA 6AU6 or 6AU6A are inexpensive. Both the grey plate 6AU6 or 6AU6A sound the same & 5 packs of RCA 6AU6A without 6AU6 in discription sell cheap on eBay. I bought new RCA in 5 packs for $8. You can sell your used Mullard 6AU6s for more than five new RCA on eBay at times.
