Hi fellow inmates please help me out , a colleague of mine is in need of an output transformer for his Marantz 8B .If none is available maybe someone can help us out to find a tech or a transformer company who can rebuild / rewind his Marantz 8B transformer . Thanks in advance guys
Follow Ups:
J&K has 2 options: New Marantz 8b OPT clones or send your core for rebuild. Be warned either options will be expensive. I ordered a 8b OPT clone for a buddy. It tested very close to the good trans on his 8b and can't tell the difference sonically. Replacing 8b the OPT is no easy matter. BTW if your friend decides to replace the OPT also replace the following: C16,C19, C20, C17, the HV rectifiers, the bias supply diode, C7A&B, C8A&B. Hope this helps.

thanks for all your advise and suggestions
Having worked with Roger Modjeski for a number of years and winding OPTs for the RM-9 & 10, there is an incredible amount of art in the 8B OPTs-
Your best bet is to find a damaged amp and see if one of the OPTs can be salvaged.
More has been forgotten in the art of transformer winding than any other aspect of this craft....
Happy Listening
McIntosh did a similar thing. No real good third party solutions to this exist I am aware of. Approaching another winder for a "rewind" of the historic lams will get you few if any responses and no takers.
If you want this to work again, your best bet is to modify the circuit to accept traditional PP OPTs.
Thanks Chip
