OK this is getting more mysterious by the second. I thought I was correcting an understandable typo. And researched and found no mention of a 6670 in Frank's Data Sheets website (which is a fairly inclusive resource of datasheets for most all tubes) prior to mentioning what I thus assumed was a typo. Also nothing in the RCA Receiving Manual.
Joe's Tube Lore lacks mention of 6670's. An Internet search turns up a book about tubes titled Tube Lore so presume this is the mentioned source about 6670's. If so it may be the author mistyped 6680 as 6670 as via google and other searches I found but a few mentions of 6670's which but stated they were substitutes for 12AU7's. Seems odd that 6670 datasheets seem no where to be found.
All this is no big deal but it would be nice if there was a relatively unknown and likely inexpensive tube equivalent to 12AU7's. Does anyone have a datasheet for or can provide a weblink for one? Thank you!
George Fathauer in his book "Electron Tube Locator" lists the 6670 as a 12AU7 type but lists only "various sources" as his reference.
I've used the GE 6680. Think it's a selected 12AU7 for low-noise. Tone-wise = blah. I have not heard or seen a 6670.As for tone... the CBS-Hytron 5418A and 7316 are my standards, as US tubes. Philips, S/H, Valvo E82CC or TFK ECC802S, as European made tubes.
Rare 12AU7 variant is the CBS-Hytron 7318. Wish I had stocked up on a few more sleeves, 20 years ago. 8^(

I've used 7730 and 6189 --- IIRC, nothing special, tone wise. I only look for good 5814A and 7316, in all-numbered 12AU7 sub-types.
