I have heard great things about the JJ 6CA7. I had a horrible experience with the KT88, though I will say they sounded pretty good. How bout the ECC803S?
With so much good stuff coming out of Russia any of the Slovakian tubes really have to perform and last to be considered. I would like your opinions.
Follow Ups:
The JJ E34L Blue Glass caused a short in my PL2 a few years ago. Switched to New Sensor Mullards and love them.
Kevin,
I have used the following JJ tubes:
a).6922/E88C - Failed in my SP9MKIII and took a couple FETs and Diodes with it too bad, easily the best sounding of the currently manufactured 6DJ8 type tubes I have heard. But when I had another pair fail in a Carver Preamp I was selling I gave up.
b). KT77 - Bias drifts on one tube of a matched pair used in a ASL MG SI 15 DT
c). 7591 - One tube of the quad in my MAC1500 receiver failed within 30 days of installation.
d). EL84 - Good tube. Excellent sound, and survived about a year of heavy use in a Cayin Amp before it began losing some of it's tone.
In my opinion being a dealer you would have to be nuts to carry this product line.
Been a while but I've tried their el84's and ecc83/ecc803s. Very ordinary tubes bettered by the EI's and RFT's I currently use.
A matched pair of gold pin JJ ECC99 tubes whipped 3 different NOS in my Mactone 300B.
I have worn out 2 sets KT-77s in the last few years. Just put my third set in. Thanks to postings on the asylum I bought 6 extra tubes- one per quad. Early mortality was aggravating although those were replaced under warranty. The other issue is runaway which has happened to 3 tubes. Not a problem if you monitor the bias. Definitely not for set 'em and forget 'em audiophiles.
For old amps which are tough on 6V6GT tubes, the JJ 6V6S is a tough tube. Not the tone of the NOS -GTY or GTA, but can be placed into those circuit that "like" tougher 6V6GT-type tubes, and survive. The only other JJ, that I've collected and still use are the 1990's era E34L. Boy, these were tough tubes, with very good tone. But, they're geting as hard to find (NOS) as the 1970's Tesla E34L's. The 1990's era seems a lot better QA, tube to tube, than the newer made JJ's.

I have had very good results with 2 quads of JJ E34L (Blue Glass if that matters) I bought in the early 2000s. My audio group did a shoot out with them and they nearly equaled NOS Mullard FX1s. I had a bad experience with a quad of KT-77s. One blew and took out a resistor etc.
I also found the KT-88s (blue again) to be anemic, they simply do not hold a candle to the Gold Lion new production. I put a JJ ECC803s type in the preamp section of a Fisher 400 and it is working well. I can't say much about it's tone, given the number of other tubes in that circuit.
When it's made right, the Jamona E34L is a great tube. They know how to do it. For the sake of a "quick buck", they are selling tubes that should be discarded on the factory floor. :> (( JJ's management needs to remember the tale about killing a goose that lays golden eggs.

I've used the 6V6S in my larger guitar amps when I wanted the wattage down and they survived so far once biased. Kinda of a neat option.

The 90s was a good era for JJ. I still have 2 quads of their E34Ls. Also, the first version of their 300B back then was great-good tone, sturdy, heavy build, lasted many years. The later versions weren't so hot. The only current JJs I have experience with are their EF-86s, which aren't very good.

Across the board, JJ's recent Octal production SUCKS .
Some of JJs Noval based stuff is still good. Their EL84 has better "tone" than the Russian 6П14П-ЕВ (6p14p-ev), AKA EL84M, but it's not 7189 tough. JJ's 12DW7 is OK. SY over at DIY Audio likes JJ's 12AT7, which happens to have the short plates necessary for the type's original purpose of VHF duty.
It used to be that JJ's E88CC was a fine recommendation, with "tone" similar to W. European NOS. That type has become unreliable. :> (
The Jamona Junk "zinger" is (unfortunately) true far too often.

I've had a set of JJ EL84 running in my Scott 299A for about 10 years now without incident. It's supposed to have 7189. Plate voltage is supposed to be about 360V in that amp which is a bit above a standard EL84. Not sure if the current production would be that tough, though.
my E83CC were charming for the first 20 minutes - after 1 hour audition everybody said that this type "is ugly sawing".
i can not report about other small JJ twin tubes but on my tube tester those eight E833CC pieces once showed extreme different values (20-40%) per tube and among the flock. they had nothing in common with small old stock tubes IMO.
JJ`s KT88 were the worst i ever heard. sorry.
the only positive recommendations i heard about JJ were their blue KT77 as an excellent replacement in EL34/6CA7 gear.

I've heard the same about the E88CC. I wish I had grabbed some 10 years ago. I have another piece that uses them now and I never bought any. Might have to roll the dice though and see if I can find some that are ok. But they would be for a phono stage so ... maybe I should just pass.
For those that like the EL34, versus KT-77 and 6CA7. Well, guess I better hold onto those 1990's Svetlana (=C=) EL34-SV and JJ E34L's.
I have many different experiences with the JJ tubes. I experimented with the JJ KT 88's and was very disappointed. Not everyone uses the same equipment so results may vary. When I tried the JJ's my soundstage collapsed, the stereo separation narrowed, and the bass and midrange was totally gone. I did try to allow for tube break in, however, in my experience over the past years, a new tube will present to you its sonic character right after they are turned on the first time. I also tried another set to verify my results, the same. The EH's are way better, and the Svetlana Winged C are better yet. The JJ's would be the last tube I would ever use in my equipment.

Hey Kevin,
The JJ KT88s I got OEM from Mike Sanders of Quicksilver on my V4s sound absolutely wonderful, and have run like champs for the last 6+ months(his website claims a very stringent screening process - which must be the case based on some of the reported failure stories I've read here on AA). I play them for long hours almost daily as I get to work from home most of the time. The sound staging & lower freq response are killer on these tubes! So far, my experience with them as been a very happy one.

I've been through two octets of the E34-L's and one quartet, with nary an issue; can't say the same of El-34's.
I use the JJ6922's in several different units - mine have been quiet (even in one very sensitive unit) and a nice colored tone.
I also use the JJ12AX7 and JJ12AU7 as alternative to the Russian stuff in some Chinese units. Depending on the tone I want. They are all different. Fairly dependable but perhaps not as rugged as the Russians.
I don't use their power tubes - too much bad press. I live with SED's and Tong'sols.
FWIW
I just got some JJ EL84s for my Manley Stingray and I like them. They replaced the stock Russian EL84Ms that may have been getting tired.
I can't speak about the reliability though, because I just got them, and I got them from McShane so any duds have been dealt with by him.As far as 2A3s - The JJ 2A3-40 is the best new production I have found out of what I consider the reasonably priced offerings:
Sovtek 2A3 - < $100/pair
Shuguang 2A3C - ~ $100/pair
JJ 2A3-40 - ~ $220/pair

I've enjoyed the ECC803S and their EL84. The 7591S sucks (Out of 12 tubes in 3 matched quads I've had 3 bad tubes- one in each quad). I have 2 5AR4 that I'm keeping for an emergency- they came with an amp I bought and I got them out of service quickly because I don't really trust them.I also had a premature 6v6 failure in a guitar amp that my son is using....
